-- Electronics manufacturers
that sell outside the
US
have recently been faced with the need
to eliminate lead in their circuit boards in order to comply with EU
standards on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
THAT Corporation is responding to customer demand by offering
more analog integrated circuits in lead-free
packages. The latest THAT ICs to
go "unleaded" are their 1510/1512
microphone preamplifiers, 4320 Analog
Engine and THAT's mainstay 2181
through-hole VCAs.
There has not yet
emerged a single industry-wide, lead-free standard for IC leg-frame
finish. THAT’s newest product
lines use a nickel/palladium/gold (Ni/Pd/Au) finish. Their engineers
feel that this is one of the best plating
options. This plating scheme
is compatible with older lead-bearing and the new no-lead soldering
processes. In addition, these
new products use a "green" plastic mold compound for
encapsulation. The compound is
more environmentally friendly than previous compounds.
Samples are currently available upon request.
Other lead-free product
lines already shipping from THAT Corporation include the InGenius®
Balanced Line Receiver ICs, 124x
series standard line receivers as well as the 2181
surface
mount
VCAs
. All
product offerings from THAT Corporation will be lead free by the end
of 2005.
THAT Corporation, a
supplier of high quality analog integrated circuits to the
professional audio and contract industry, is a sustaining member of
the AES.
