Consumer dbx-tv – Total Volume

dbx-tv Total Volume

The dbx-tv team is proud to unveil Total Volume. As the name implies, Total Volume is a total solution, fully addressing every facet of the TV loudness problem:

  1. commercials
  2. channel surfing
  3. excessive dynamics
  4. excessive spatial processing
  5. unintelligible dialog at low volume settings

The initial version of Total Volume is positioned as a 2-channel solution to help improve sound presentation over internal TV speakers. It's designed especially to be integrated into TV sets, but is also perfectly suitable for most any TV-centric consumer device, including set-tops, Blu-ray, DVRs, PCs, etc.

This digital solution is highly efficient, requiring only minimal DSP resources: ~15-20 MIPS, < 4kB data memory, and <10kB program memory. It can be integrated into even the most resource-constrained TV SoCs.

Though efficient, this technology is also quite sophisticated. It is backed by the dbx-tv brand, employing the finest in compression design. The performance is superb, and the improved control of loudness is undeniable. It is virtually free of the various artifacts, such as pumping and breathing that plague other systems. Remarkably, it faithfully preserves the sense of dynamics of the original program material. It behaves essentially as an intelligent remote control, automatically maintaining desired sound levels. It's also fully configurable for any type of listening environment, such as for nighttime, movies, or standard TV. Dialog-intelligibility can even be retained at low volume settings, allowing TV viewers to finally have their cake and eat it too. This technology drastically improves the TV listening experience; there's nothing subtle about the improvements.

Total Volume is available today for evaluation and license. Please contact us to request an evaluation platform and/or onsite demo.
